I had read WH in my teens and disliked it immensely so I gave it another chance....finish it with a bitter taste in my mouth. I now have it with a passion ! Nellly Dean is about the only character that can be called "human", the rest are mentally deranged and incestuous. No wonder Emily Bronte wrote one novel ! Charlotte Bronte' "Jane Eyre" is OK, but the only two books of Anne Bronte are worth while reading, particularly TTiWH.I Regards from Cheshire.

So true! It's utterly and unrelentingly depressing but somehow is an addictive read that you keep coming back to. Nothing much happens in the grand scheme of things but yet it's gripping. I guess that was Emily Bronte's genius.

It’s so funny that you didn’t like the “Mormon Wild West Love Affair” I thought it was the best part of the book. By no means am I a Western guy, but I was on the edge of my seat for most of those scene. There was genuine tension. On the other hand, Holmes is a caricature of an old timey detective as expected. You know he’ll get everything right, and will catch the guy so tension = zero.

I'm 58 years old and have just read Wuthering Heights. I live in Yorkshire very near Haworth and have always meant this novel. I have never really thought about the other Brontë sisters novel. I read quite but mostly popular genre fiction rather than literary novels. I enjoyed the novel in many ways but it is an incredibly rough read. Everything is incredibly bleak and dreadful in the novel. Heathcliffe is an absolute brute and villain. I suppose he might have the excuse that he was horribly bullied by Hindley as a child. But no character is at all pleasant all. Like seems much more precarious in those days with many characters dieing young.
